US Court Schedules Maduro Drug Trafficking Trial for June 2027

1 min read

A United States judge has reportedly fixed June 1, 2027 as the start of trial for former Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, who stand charged with drug trafficking in America.

Both defendants have entered not-guilty pleas. Maduro’s lawyers intend to contest whether his arrest was lawful and to assert that sovereign immunity shields him from prosecution.

The indictment grows out of Trump administration allegations that Maduro took part in a cocaine smuggling conspiracy — accusations he rejects. A conviction could bring a sentence of life imprisonment.
