Usain Bolt has handed $1.7 million to the 2026 graduating class at his old school, Waldensia Primary and Infant School, turning the leaving ceremony in Trelawny into a moment of celebration earlier this week.

A video circulated online captured a school official telling the audience, "Each child will be leaving here this afternoon with $100,000!" The announcement set off loud cheers from those gathered at Waldensia Baptist Church, where the ceremony was staged.

The same official said Bolt is recognised not only for his achievements on the track but for the way he gives back, noting that he has regularly used his success to lift up other people. "His acts of kindness demonstrate that true greatness is measured not only by personal achievements but also the willingness to make a positive difference in the lives of others," she said. She added, "Usain Bolt's compassion, humility and commitment to helping those in need continues to inspire those around the world, reminding us that success is most meaningful when it is shared with others."

School officials also said Bolt's mother, Jennifer Bolt, attended the function and was instrumental in pressing for the donation. On Friday, Bolt shared a message on Facebook for the youngsters: "Congrats to all 17 students from Waldensia Primary School in my hometown of Sherwood on passing their PEP [Primary Exit Profile] exams. Keep making your parents and community proud," he said.
