UWI instruments clock 4.4 tremor south of Albion as eastern Jamaica shakes overnight

ST THOMAS, Jamaica — Seismologists at the Earthquake Unit of The University of the West Indies (UWI) say instruments picked up a magnitude-4.4 event across eastern Jamaica in the small hours of Wednesday.
Early figures from the team show the main shock at close to 3:20 am, with residents from several eastern communities reporting ground motion.
Modellers mapped the surface projection roughly 10 kilometres south of Albion in this parish and put the hypocentre 11 kilometres below ground.
