Tropical Wave Keeps Jamaica Under Rain, Thunder and Gusty Winds Today
Jamaica will remain under unsettled weather today as a tropical wave passes quickly across the island, bringing showers, thunderstorms and gusty winds.
Meteorologist Racquel Smith at the National Met Centre outlined the forecast in an update to IRIE FM News.
The station received reports that high tides caused flooding in parts of Port Royal yesterday. Minor flooding was also recorded in areas of other parishes, including Ocho Rios in St. Ann.
Smith said both the tropical wave and a low-level jet stream were behind the conditions.
She indicated that thunderstorm activity should ease from tomorrow. A small craft warning remains in place because of winds tied to the low-level jet stream.
Smith added that people in Port Royal should brace for further high-tide effects, as the low-level jet stream is expected to hang around into next week.
