
Old Harbour breakfast vendor known as Porridge Man killed in shooting
Residents of Old Harbour were left reeling after a well-liked breakfast vendor known as "Porridge Man" was shot while serving customers, leaving onlookers and neighbours shaken by the daylight attack.
The death has cast a pall over the Panton Lane area in St Catherine, where locals recalled the seller by the nickname they used for him with affection.
Reports indicate that at roughly 9:30 a.m. the vendor was in his customary spot offering an assortment of porridge to people walking past and to community members when sharp bangs suddenly filled the air.
Once the shooting stopped, he was discovered with injuries that looked like several gunshot wounds. He was taken urgently to Spanish Town Hospital and was declared dead there.
Authorities have not determined why he was targeted. Officers from the Old Harbour Criminal Investigation Branch are conducting the probe.
