Georges Plain Man Faces Assault Counts After Woman Injured in Dispute

A 20-year-old resident of Georges Plain, Westmoreland, is before the courts on assault charges linked to an argument in his community on May 10.
Rayon Powell, of Jane Marks Road, Georges Plain, is accused of striking a woman with a stone and a piece of board during the dispute. Officers at the Savanna-la-Mar police station said the encounter took place around 11:00 a.m.
Powell has been charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Investigators said the woman sustained bruising, swelling and a broken arm.
She reported the matter to the police, and an investigation followed. Powell later turned himself in to authorities on Saturday and was formally charged. A date for him to appear in court is still being set.
