Visa elevates Jorge Salum to lead Greater Caribbean digital payments across 22 markets
Visa Inc., a global force in digital payments, has announced a senior leadership reshuffle across its Caribbean operations, with Jorge Salum named Vice President and Country Manager for Greater Caribbean Markets.
The position is newly established. Salum will head an enlarged structure that combines Visa's Northern and Southern Caribbean units, excluding Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. The portfolio covers 22 markets across the region.
"Jorge Salum's appointment reflects Visa's commitment to advancing the next phase of digital payments transformation across the Greater Caribbean. His deep expertise, strong track record, and understanding of these markets position him well to lead growth at a critical moment, as the region accelerates its shift from cash to secure digital commerce, expands financial inclusion, and strengthens its payment ecosystem. Jorge's leadership will be instrumental in deepening partnerships with financial institutions, merchants, fintechs, governments, and other stakeholders to support more inclusive, resilient, and connected economies across the Caribbean," said Jorge Lemus, Senior Vice President and Group Country Manager, Visa, Caribbean and Central America.
Salum most recently served as Country Manager for the Southern Caribbean. In that role he oversaw markets including the Dutch Caribbean, Guyana, Haiti, the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago. He also led the Business Development team for the Caribbean and Central America.
"This is a meaningful opportunity to help advance Visa's work across the Greater Caribbean," said Jorge Salum. "The region is entering a new stage of digital payments transformation, where the focus is not only on expanding access, but on creating trusted, seamless, and inclusive payment experiences that support everyday commerce, small-business growth, tourism, public-sector modernisation, and cross-border connectivity. We will continue working closely with our clients and partners to scale innovative solutions, strengthen payment infrastructure, and help build more resilient and inclusive digital economies across the region."
Salum takes up the post as part of a broader handover following the retirement of Frank Gandarillas, who guided Visa's English- and Dutch-speaking Caribbean business for close to three decades.
Gandarillas joined the company in 1998 and held a series of positions within its sales organisation. His most recent assignment was Country Manager for the Northern Caribbean, where he managed key client relationships in The Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, Jamaica, and Turks and Caicos.
