YG Marley’s debut single, Praise Jah In The Moonlight, is now certified Platinum in both the United Kingdom and the United States.

According to the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), the song was issued the Brit Certified Platinum Award on Friday (May 8) after it sold over 600,000 units in the UK, as measured by The Official Charts Company. It had been certified Gold (for surpassing 400,000 units) in July 2024.

Praise Jah In The Moonlight opens with a vocal sample from Bob Marley & The Wailers’ 1978 track Crisis and also credits his mother, Lauryn Hill, as a co-writer and co-producer. Marley, born Joshua Omaru Marley, is the son of Rohan Marley, an entrepreneur and the son of Reggae legend Bob Marley.

The song gained popularity after one of Marley’s performances on his mother’s “Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill” tour in late 2023. It took off on TikTok, leading to its official release on December 27, 2023.

It reached No. 34 on the Billboard Hot 100, No. 20 on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100, No. 5 on the UK Singles Chart, No. 1 on the New Zealand Songs Chart, No. 11 on the Billboard Global 200.

It went Platinum in the US (1 million units) in December 2024, and is currently 2X Platinum in Canada (160,000 units), Platinum in France (200,000 units), and 2X Platinum in New Zealand (60,000 units)

The song has picked up over 505 million plays on Spotify, while the official music video currently has over 62 million views on YouTube.

Marley has since followed up with Survivalwhich drew inspiration and lyrics from the elder Marley’s iconic 1979 album of the same name.

He has also collaborated with Davido on the single Awuke, and Chole on the song Never Let You Go.

FIYAH, his latest single, was released on May 8.
