Jamaican music icon Shaggy continues to prove his enduring global appeal, particularly across Oceania and in New Zealand.

His classic hit "It Wasn't Me," featured on his 2000 multi-platinum album Hot Shot and famously never intended for single release, has earned yet another accolade after being certified 7× Platinum in New Zealand.

According to Recorded Music NZ, the crossover anthem has now surpassed 210,000 units in combined sales and streaming equivalents as of June 18.

"It Wasn't Me," which features vocals from British-Jamaican singer RikRok, given name Ricardo Ducent, was serviced to American contemporary hit radio on November 7, 2000. The track quickly became Shaggy's breakthrough pop smash, propelling him to global superstardom and establishing him as one of the most successful crossover acts in music.

The single topped charts in more than 10 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Belgium, Ireland, France, Scotland, and the Netherlands. It remains the highest-charting song of Shaggy's career, selling more than 1.15 million copies during its initial run.

Over the years, "It Wasn't Me" has collected numerous certifications, including 3× Platinum in the United Kingdom with more than 2.4 million units sold, 3× Platinum in Australia, Platinum certifications in Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden, as well as Gold certifications in Austria and Switzerland.

The achievement marks Shaggy's third consecutive week of earning a Platinum certification in New Zealand. In recent weeks, "Hey Sexy Lady" was certified Platinum after surpassing 30,000 units in sales and streaming equivalents, while "Boombastic" earned 2× Platinum status, highlighting the remarkable longevity of the reggae icon's catalog.
