Cavalier FC takes over Turner's Oval in Clarendon as new home ground

CLARENDON, Jamaica — Jamaica Premier League (JPL) outfit Cavalier Football Club has taken over Turner's Oval in Clarendon, declaring the ground its new base of operations.

News of the move surfaced on Monday through an Instagram post by the JPL, which shared a photograph of the facility. Cavalier president Rudolph Speid verified the acquisition when contacted, replying "Yup" to an Observer Online query about the development.

Pressed on whether the club would now affiliate with the Clarendon Football Association, Speid responded "Nope", signalling that the relocation will not bring a change in association membership.

The arrangement is striking because Turner's Oval doubles as the home venue of Chapelton Maroons, the JPL club run by Craig Butler — a long-standing adversary of Speid. The pair's feud has carried into the legal arena, with the Cavalier boss recently lodging a defamation suit against the Phoenix academy head.

Cavalier, established in 1962 by Leighton Duncan and nicknamed the Duncan Destroyers, had previously been staging its home matches at the state-owned Stadium East.
