Cement shortage hampers Labour Day project in Portmore

Mayor of Portmore Leon Thomas reported that the shortage of cement hampered Monday's Labor Day activities across the municipality.

Cab Cement had reported that heavy rainfall had caused excessive moisture in raw materials and processed disruptions, leading to limited inventory.

The Ministry of Industry Investment & Commerce has approved interim measures, including permitting the importation of supplementary supplies of cement.

Mayor Thomas told Radio Jamaica News that he hoped the project to construct sidewalks will be completed in short order.

“However, we have done a section of it, and we intend to continue as soon as we get more cement, to finish the project… We will continue this project until we have completed it to that intersection, and then we'll look at other major roads where we have a lot of pedestrians throughout the municipality,” he said. ,
