Meet records tumble at 2026 Tornadoes Invitational swim session
Several meet records and personal bests marked the May 23 session of the 2026 Tornadoes Invitational Swim Meet, as age-group swimmers and masters competitors raced through breaststroke, freestyle, butterfly, backstroke and relay events.
In the girls 11-12 100-metre breaststroke, Jordana Thomas won the fastest heat in 1:27.49, ahead of Danielle Powell and Skylar Smith. Among the boys 11-12 breaststrokers, Miguel Jonas led the final heat, followed by Aiden Dennison and Noah Spence. Sabrina Lyn, described on the broadcast as Jamaica’s Olympian, later won the final heat of the girls 13-and-over 100-metre breaststroke.
The distance races produced one of the afternoon’s closest finishes. Dominic Whitlock won the boys 9-10 400-metre freestyle in 5:36.70, just ahead of Kalel Walters in 5:36.76, with Nathan Charles Lyburn third. In the girls 9-10 400-metre freestyle, Haley Wainwright, Jordyn Prendergast and Azaria Longmore completed a Sailfish top three in one heat, while Zahara Hall-Baxter later led Asia Lee Ann Cook and Michaela Wilkinson.
William Wong delivered one of the headline swims, setting an unofficial meet record of 2:12.95 in the boys 11-12 200-metre freestyle. Chloe Renee Bryan won the girls 11-12 200-metre freestyle final heat in 2:27.28, while Kai Lawson took the girls 13-and-over 200-metre freestyle in 2:17.59.
There were more record performances in the sprint events. Danielia Powell clocked an unofficial 30.52 seconds in the girls 11-12 50-metre butterfly. Sabrina Lyn won the girls 13-and-over 50-metre butterfly in 28.18 seconds, with Skyler Richards second in 28.64. Julian Willoughby won the boys 13-and-over 50-metre butterfly in 26.62.
Masters swimmers also featured, including Gillian Millwood, Pamela Anglin, Lisa Griffiths, Anthony Morrison-Vincent and former Olympian Allan Marsh. Griffiths lowered her own women’s 25-and-over 50-metre freestyle meet record to 36.13 seconds. The session closed with freestyle relays, including wins for Tornadoes teams in the boys 11-12 and boys 13-14 events.
