St. Ann bookings surge as Reggae Sumfest 2026 nears

The Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association says bookings have climbed in St. Ann for the weekend leading into Reggae Sumfest 2026, as promoters put finishing touches on arrangements for the crowds expected in the parish and local traders gear up for a busy trading period.

Most large hotels, villas and Airbnb properties are understood to be at full occupancy. Vanna Taylor, president of the St. Ann chapter of the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association, welcomed the surge, saying major events lift not only lodging but commerce across the board and thanking organisers for bringing shows into the area.

Smaller operators are also preparing. One food vendor said shops, wholesalers and roadside outlets expect heavy demand, plan to open early on Sunday to serve arriving visitors, and are counting on affordable prices to draw returning patrons.

State Minister in the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce Dana Civro said micro, small and medium enterprises stand to gain most, as festivals give entrepreneurs a critical sales lift that helps keep and expand their ventures. She described the mix of tourism, entertainment and local enterprise as the kind of activity that creates work, income and opportunity in St. Ann and across Jamaica, and praised Joe Bogdanovich, the Downtown Entertainment team and the wider Reggae Sumfest organisers for their ongoing investment.

St. Ann's Bay Mayor Michael Belnavis is urging more promoters to stage large events at Plantation Cove. He noted that the site sits in an entertainment zone, so the Noise Abatement Act does not apply there, making it better suited to major shows and reducing the usual friction around noise and disruption for nearby communities.
