Omar Collymore’s Separate Murder Case Put Off Until September

A new trial that was due to start on Wednesday for Omar Collymore on a separate murder matter has been postponed until September.

Collymore, who is already serving a double life sentence for arranging the January 2018 killings of his then wife, Simone Campbell-Collymore, and taxi operator Winston Walters, is now to return to court on September 18. The adjournment came after the Crown asked for additional time to complete its file.

In the new case, Collymore is accused of being part of a plot to kill another woman with whom he was involved in a relationship. The prosecution had been expected to begin outlining its allegations on Wednesday.

Collymore and his co-accused, Carey Jonas, Dwayne Pink, Michael Adams and Shaquille Edwards, are before the court on charges of illegal possession of a firearm, shooting with intent and conspiracy to murder.

Three of the four men charged with him, Pink, Adams and Edwards, are already serving sentences alongside Collymore in connection with the killings of Campbell-Collymore and Walters. Jonas is being indicted with Collymore for the first time and was not linked to the 2018 murders.

That earlier case drew wide public attention after Campbell-Collymore and Walters were attacked and killed on January 2, 2018. Prosecutors said the pair were ambushed by gunmen on motorbikes outside the Forest Ridge apartment complex in Red Hills, St Andrew, where Campbell-Collymore lived with her then husband and children.

Campbell-Collymore was hit 19 times, while Walters was shot five times. At the end of that trial, the Crown said it had shown that Collymore arranged the murders to collect on his wife’s multimillion Jamaican-dollar life insurance policies. Under those policies, their two children were entitled to 15 per cent each, while Collymore stood to receive 70 per cent of the benefits.
