Minister Cuthbert - Flynn delivered the commendations in her greetings to the staff of th e DCS at the Department’s Strategic Planning Retreat on May 8 at the Ocean Coral Springs Resort in Trelawny . Juliet Cuthbert - Flynn, has commended the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) for its continued commitment to rehabilitation, institutional transformation, and public safety. Speaking at the Department’s Strategic Planning Retreat on Friday (May 8), Minister Cuthbert - Flynn praised the leadership, correctional officers, and support staff for their dedication and the progress being made across the correctional system. “The Department of Correctional Services is proving that rehabilitation, education, a nd strategic investment can transform lives, strengthen communities, and contribute meaningfully to Jamaica’s national security agenda … Your work continues to play a critical role in advancing public safety, strengthening communities, and supporting national development , ” the State Minister said. She noted that the work of correctional officers extends far beyond maintaining security within institutions, highlighting the many responsibilities officers undertake in carrying out their duties. You operate in an environment that require s resilience, professionalism, sound judgement, and compassion,” she stated. “Y our dedication to duty and continued service to country deserve recognition and appreciation.” Minister Cuthbert - Flynn also pointed to the continued decline in recidivism as evidence that the Department’s interventions are making a positive impact in prep aring individuals for successful reintegration into society. The State Minister further praised the achievements of offender clients who have pursued tertiary education, earned academic distinctions, and participated in skills training, noting that these accomplishments reflect the transformative potential of rehabilitation programmes within the correctional system. Reiterating her confidence in the team and in the direction in which the Department is moving , Minister Cuthbert - Flynn encouraged the DCS to use the opportunity to engage meaningfully and think strategically about the future direction of the Department as it continues to evolve to meet emerging challenges and national priorities. - 30 -
