Bahamian Reggae Singer Avaran Launches Sunshine After Rain in Jamaica

2 min readKingston

Internationally recognised Bahamian reggae singer Avaran has begun his first Jamaica tour devoted entirely to promoting one of his songs. His latest lovers rock single, Sunshine After Rain, offers a message centred on affection, thankfulness and optimism following challenging periods.

The track was made at Anchor Recording Studio in Kingston. Speaking with THE STAR, Avaran explained that the idea came from experiencing the positive transformation that a special partner can bring. He said people may spend different phases of their lives seeking that connection before Jah blesses them with someone who provides joy, calm and a stronger sense of direction.

Several established reggae musicians contributed to the recording. Errol “Flabba” Holt played bass, Earl “Chinna” Smith handled guitar, Kirk “Kirkledove” Bennett performed on drums and Robbie Lyn provided keyboards. Nikki Burt supplied backing vocals.

Delroy “Phatta” Pottinger served as the recording engineer, while Ed Robinson completed the mixing and mastering work.

Avaran said Jamaica was the natural location for the project’s introduction because the country is reggae’s birthplace. He wanted the Jamaican public, its musicians and the wider culture to receive the song first as a gesture of respect for giving the genre to the world. Although he had visited before, he noted that this is his first trip made specifically to market one of his releases to Jamaican listeners.

The Bahamian artiste has previously performed on the same stages as Lucky Dube, Beres Hammond and Mykal Rose. However, he acknowledged that obstacles have affected his progress. Like other independent performers, he encountered delays and disappointments, but continued composing and recording while trusting that each release was helping to prepare him for another phase of his career.

Sunshine After Rain was issued by HungryBelly Records, Avaran’s independent label. The release represents his continued focus on traditional reggae expression while maintaining authority over his creative work.

He also recognised Pottinger for connecting him with Ralston Barrett, a publicist at The Reggae PR Agency. Barrett’s agency is managing the promotional activities for the single in Jamaica.

An official video is being prepared, while a full album has already been completed. Avaran views the new single as the opening of a promising period in his musical journey. He hopes its message will encourage listeners to remain loving and hopeful, and to keep believing that brighter times can follow hardship.
