Beryllium Confirms Death After Kingston Garage Blast, Two Survivors Flown To US
Beryllium Limited says it has arranged urgent medical help and other support for people hurt in Wednesday’s explosion and fire at a garage beside its South Camp Road compound in Kingston.
The incident left four people injured after a blast and the fire that followed affected a vehicle on the garage premises.
In a statement issued Thursday, Beryllium said one of the injured men had died. The company described him as an external contractor who had been working inside the garage facility.
The security firm said it was deeply saddened by the death and offered sympathy to the man’s relatives and loved ones.
Beryllium said two of the three surviving injured persons were flown from the Norman Manley airport in Kingston to the United States on Thursday by air ambulance. The company said they were being sent for specialist treatment for burns and critical care.
The third surviving injured man remains under medical care in Jamaica.
According to Beryllium, the recovery and welfare of those affected are its main concern. It said it has been coordinating with medical teams in Jamaica and overseas, emergency support personnel, and the relevant authorities on care, travel, and family-support arrangements.
The company also said professional counsellors have been brought in to offer emotional support and trauma counselling to staff affected by the incident.
Beryllium said it will continue assisting the injured persons and their families while giving full cooperation to investigations into what caused the explosion.
It also expressed thanks to emergency responders, healthcare workers, counsellors, and staff members who helped after the incident.
