Cascade Primary School earns full certification under Jamaica's national school nutrition policy
Cascade Primary School has become fully certified under Jamaica's national school nutrition policy, with officials confirming the institution has met every standard set for healthy school feeding.
Staff at the school said the campus is now fully aligned with the national framework. Pupils are offered water and natural juices rather than less healthy alternatives, and each meal is prepared with vegetables as part of a balanced daily diet.
Speaking at the recognition event, one official stressed that children need the right nutrients to sustain energy, maintain focus, improve attendance, and perform well in the classroom. The ministry has also raised its budget for school nutrition work, with allocation for the current year standing at nine billion dollars.
Cascade Primary was congratulated for setting the pace nationally on school nutrition. Observers noted that pupils appeared cheerful and well cared for, with visible signs of the benefits of sound dietary practice.
Officials said combining proper nutrition with regular physical activity gives young people their best opportunity to reach their goals. One speaker added that a future health minister could well emerge from among Cascade Primary's student body if the school continues on its current path.
