Chabano Nkani Sets Up Debut Album With Woman of My Dreams Single

1 min readKingston

Chabano Nkani is moving toward the release of his first full-length album later this year, and his newest single, Woman of My Dreams, is intended to give audiences an early sense of the project. The track was released in May and was written by the Connecticut-based singer, who also handled production through his Isle Of Springs Records label.

The song honours Black women and continues a run of recent releases from Nkani. It follows Close to You, which he issued in January.

Nkani told Observer Online that his Afro-conscious outlook shapes the type of music he chooses to make, especially when it comes to affirming Black identity. “I strongly believe that it is incumbent on us as a people to project the group in general and the black woman in particular, in a positive light. The black woman must always be encouraged, inspired, and aspire to reach her true potential,” he said.

The forthcoming album will mark a major point in a varied music career for Nkani, who was born Richard Brown in Kingston. He has spent two decades recording, with past songs including Showers of Blessing, Cover Me and Father.

Showers of Blessing was recorded for In The Streetz Records, a label that ranked among Jamaica’s prominent music outfits in the early 2000s. Nkani has also worked as a producer for other artistes, including T.O.K, Warrior King, Luciano, Natural Black, Half Pint, Kirk Davis and Hawkeye.
