Clarendon traffic cop dies in highway crash as police probe killings and gun threats islandwide

Constable Shavin Davie, 32, died after his Toyota Premio overturned on the Bustamante Highway near Swansea in Clarendon shortly before 5:00 a.m. on Friday. Assigned to the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch in the corporate area, Davie was taken to hospital and pronounced dead. A native of Craighead in northern Manchester, he previously worked at the Department of Correctional Services.

Police in Manchester are investigating the shooting death of 57-year-old landscaper Andrew Williams at his home in Trinity, near Porus, on Thursday about 11:00 a.m. Relatives found his bullet-riddled body in the bedroom with multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body. "He's the first in the family to have passed in this tragic way," his brother Gerald Williams said.

Three people, including a woman, have been charged after allegedly threatening another woman with guns in Central Village, St. Catherine. Nakita Wedderburn, 22, of Central Village, and Damani Brown, 27, and Shamal Brown, 30, both of Big Lane, face charges of possession of a prohibited weapon and assault at common law. Police allege that about 1:00 p.m. on July 6, the complainant was walking to Central Village Police Station to report a prior dispute when the accused confronted her and the two men allegedly pointed guns at her before driving away with Wedderburn.

St. Mary police are probing the death of Regish Kesha Allen, 46, of Orders Field, who arrived at Port Maria Hospital around 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday with stab wounds to the chest and died during treatment. Hunts Bay police have released composite sketches of two men and a woman wanted over a robbery with aggravation along Atlantic Boulevard, Kingston 11, on Saturday, June 27, when passengers allegedly robbed a Toyota Probox wheelchair driver of a phone, $15,300, and a wallet before fleeing toward Seaview Gardens.

St. Ann police have intensified the search for 66-year-old Owen Hamilton, known as Teacher OG, of Steer Town, missing since July 4 during a grave-digging exercise in Bamboo; relatives plan a search on Saturday, July 11. Constable Andrew Wilson, charged with murder in the May 17 shooting death of Granville, St. James resident Latoya Budgeon, otherwise called Butcher, will have his matter transferred to the St. James Circuit Court on Monday, July 13, with $1 million bail extended.

Sixty-four-year-old Jamaican pastor Junior Alves was among 11 people the United States deported to Eswatini on Wednesday under third-country removal arrangements. Family members said he has no US criminal conviction and had lived there since receiving protection under the Convention Against Torture in 2016. ICE agents detained him at home on January 11 until this week's deportation. Jamaica has signed a memorandum of understanding with the US allowing third-country nationals to transit through Jamaica to their final destination.
