St. James

Corinaldi Avenue Primary, the three-time defending champions, will be among four previous winners trying to reach the final of the St James Football Association/Victoria Mutual Foundation Under-13 tournament in today’s semi-finals at WesPow Park.

The unbeaten champions, who have gone three seasons without a defeat, meet 2017 winners John Rollins Success Primary in the opening match at 10:00 am. The second semi-final will see six-time champions Catherine Hall Primary face Anchovy Primary, who have won the title twice, at 11:30 am.

Both winners will move on to Friday’s final, which is also scheduled for WesPow Park.

Corinaldi Avenue and Anchovy Primary topped their first-round zones, while Catherine Hall Primary and John Rollins Success Primary moved into the quarter-finals after finishing second in their groups. Corinaldi Avenue have also kept their regular-season goal intact for the past two seasons.

Riomario Powell, the competition’s leading scorer for a second consecutive season, carried Corinaldi Avenue into the last four on May 14 by scoring all four goals in a 4-0 quarter-final win over Flankers Primary. The haul lifted his season total to 13 goals.

Anchovy Primary also secured their semi-final place on May 14, edging Granville Primary 1-0 through Nathaniel Smith’s 21st-minute strike.

The following day, John Rollins Success Primary got past Irwin Primary 1-0, with Ozaine Henry netting the decisive goal in the 40th minute. Catherine Hall Primary then surprised highly rated Barracks Road Primary, winning 5-3 on penalties after a goalless match in regulation time.

Today’s games at WesPow Park are Corinaldi Primary against John Rollins Success Primary at 10:00 am, followed by Catherine Hall Primary against Anchovy Primary at 11:30 am.
