CVM’s Sunrise programme on June 1, 2026, moved across several national issues, including public health, hurricane preparedness, youth development, legal rights, vehicle security and community wellness.

The morning headlines reported the Ministry of Health and Wellness’ assurance that Jamaica had no confirmed Ebola cases. Eight travellers, who had arrived from or passed through countries affected by an Ebola outbreak within the previous 21 days, were placed under mandatory self-quarantine after airport screening. Health officials said they had no symptoms and were being monitored by local health departments.

The programme also noted the formal start of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season, which runs to November 30. Although United States forecasters were expecting a below-normal season because of El Niño conditions, Jamaica’s Meteorological Service urged residents not to relax preparations. Climate services manager Jacqueline Spence Hemming pointed to Hurricane Melissa as a reminder that one major storm can cause severe damage.

Utility providers outlined recovery and resilience work following Melissa. The Jamaica Public Service said power had been restored to more than 99.9 per cent of affected customers, while the National Water Commission reported service restoration for up to 99 per cent and roughly $1.2 billion in planned investment for generators and resilience projects. Digital and Flow also reported upgrades to towers, fibre routes, backup systems and satellite-supported connectivity.

Youth development advocate Tishana Mullings discussed the Little Genius Futureproof Jamaica Video Challenge 2026, which invites children aged eight to 11 to imagine Jamaica in 2040. Entries close at midnight on June 2, with online voting through Little Genius JA on Instagram and Facebook running to June 7. The competition offers more than $50,000 in prizes, trophies and courtesy calls.

Attorney-at-law Shamar Bryan explained that personal injury claims in tort generally face a six-year limitation period, meaning a 2018 motor-vehicle accident claim may now be statute barred unless an exception applies. The show also featured Amber Connect’s new vehicle protection package and promoted the 11th True Juice 5K run-walk at True Juice Orchards in Bog Walk, St Catherine, on June 7 in support of Linstead Hospital.
