Three men were shot, one fatally, during an alleged confrontation with police in Hatfield, Trilani, on Saturday night. Reports indicate that sometime after 8:00 p.m., the men were travelling in a Toyota Probox with others when they reportedly exchanged gunfire with officers. When the shooting stopped, all three were found with gunshot wounds. They were taken to hospital, where one was pronounced dead and the other two were admitted under police guard. A police source said the Independent Commission of Investigations is examining the incident.

Residents and business operators in Burn Savannah protested on Friday, May 15, saying a curfew of more than two months has blocked their ability to earn, especially as families still recover from Hurricane Melissa while meeting childcare and other costs. They said the measure runs from Wednesday through Sunday, leaving only Monday and Tuesday—typically slower trading days—outside the 6:00 p.m. restriction, and they want operations allowed until midnight. The demonstration followed a candlelight vigil on the night of May 14 for community member Kion Taja Campbell, who had recently died in a motorcycle crash. Residents said they had heard unofficial reports that the curfew was lifted and went ahead with the vigil, but police later moved to shut it down around 7:00 p.m. and used pepper spray.

One resident told the gathering: "They've been locking us down from 6:00 to 6:00. Last night we heard from a source that on Thursdays there is no curfew. This youth crashed off his bike and we were having candle lights. They came after 9. We only saw two vans, then two more. They backed us up, ran the siren, and people started moving. When you have candle lights for the dead you have vendors and people out. Cleon Campbell Taj was a very good youth the community loved. We were trying to leave and help the family pack up. They talked to us like animals. After cooperation started, they sprayed us with their arm spray. A baby got spray. A stampede started. A little girl was affected. Our prime minister turned us down for hurricane relief on the roof. We are owners trying to rebuild under curfew from 6:00—how are we going to take care of our children? We need justice. We need freedom."

A suspect featured on the police wanted list on Wednesday was captured Friday morning in St Ann. Andre Brown, otherwise called "Pigs", was held during a major operation in Beverly, Runaway Bay. He was wanted for questioning in connection with murder and a shooting in the parish. Nearly 100 officers from the public safety and traffic enforcement branch, St Ann police and a specialised operations unit took part. Fifteen people were detained and more than 20 premises were searched. Several detainees have since been charged under the Law Reform (Fraudulent Transactions) (Special Provisions) Act and the Dangerous Drugs Act.

Detectives from the Kingston East Police Division have charged 32-year-old Amoya Shaw with infanticide over the death of her baby. Shaw, who was taken into custody last month, was charged on Thursday. Investigators said the incident occurred on April 18 about 9:00 p.m. at a house in Rockfort, Kingston 2. Shaw, a mother of six, was at home with two of her children, including her four-month-old, when she allegedly threw the infant to the ground several times, causing head injuries. She then allegedly wrapped the child in a towel, placed him on a bed and left with an 18-month-old. Residents alerted police after finding the body. A missing-person report was filed, and the next morning residents reported Shaw trying to harm a small child along Orange Street. Police rescued that child and took both to Admiral Town Police Station, but Shaw later ran from the station. The Child Protection and Family Services Agency was engaged. She was later located in the St Andrew Central police area, interviewed, gave a confession statement and was charged. Shaw is scheduled to appear before the St Andrew Parish Court on June 1.
