Hazy conditions, western showers forecast across Jamaica

Jamaica is expected to experience generally fair weather overnight, with hazy conditions and showers forecast for sections of the island on Tuesday. A small craft warning will remain in place for the south coast as strong winds and rough seas continue.

Satellite images show a weak tropical wave producing isolated showers near the centre of the Caribbean, although no significant activity is evident. A high-pressure system over the western Caribbean continues to support stable weather across the region.

Kingston's temperature is forecast to fall to 27°C overnight. Northerly winds along the south coast should average five knots, while the north coast can expect southeasterly winds at the same speed and a minimum temperature of 26°C.

Morning showers are forecast for northeastern Jamaica, while haze should affect the wider area through the morning and afternoon. Western sections could receive isolated showers under partly cloudy skies. Kingston is expected to reach 36°C, while Montego Bay should record a high of 35°C.

Partly cloudy conditions are forecast for most southeastern areas. Showers and possible thunderstorms could develop over Santa Cruz, Black River, Savanna-la-Mar, Negril, Lucea, Montego Bay and Falmouth.

St Ann's Bay, Ocho Rios, Port Maria and Port Antonio could receive morning showers. Inland communities including Mocho, Christiana and Green Island should range from partly cloudy to mostly cloudy. Duncans and Cave Valley may have a few showers, while afternoon cloudiness is expected in Richmond and May Pen.

Isolated afternoon showers are forecast from Wednesday through Friday. By Friday, the rainfall could become scattered across central and western parishes.

North-coast marine winds on Tuesday are expected to come from the east at 15 to 20 knots, with waves ranging from about one to two metres. East-southeasterly winds of 20 to 25 knots are forecast for the south coast, where waves may reach 2.5 metres. The warning also covers offshore waters, with easterly winds of 20 to 25 knots and seas building from two to 2.5 metres.

Similar wind conditions are expected from Wednesday through Friday. Tuesday's sunset is forecast for 6:44 p.m. in Kingston, 6:47 p.m. in Mandeville and 6:50 p.m. in Negril.
