The probe into how they died continues.

Discovery Bay police said that on Tuesday, July 7, about 5:50 p.m., a male customer entered the supermarket where Wright worked. As the man left, Wright asked to search his bag; the man refused. A fight followed, and Wright allegedly used his licensed firearm to shoot the customer in the abdomen. The injured man was hospitalised. Wright was arrested and charged after video and statements were reviewed. A court date has not been set.

In St Catherine, landlord Lloyd Gonzalez, also known as Hans, 69, has been charged under the Rent Restrictions Act and with break-in and robbery after a tenant reported about 400,000 zinc coins stolen. Old Harbour police said the woman locked her rented house on July 6 and returned about 3 p.m. on July 9 to find the padlocks on the front grille cut and replaced. A room door had been forced and a seven-bay lattice holding the zinc coins was gone. Gonzalez was arrested and charged on July 11 after allegedly confessing. No court date has been set.

The People’s National Party says Westmoreland MP Dwayne Vaz has stepped down from the shadow Cabinet after talks with Opposition Leader Mark Golding, to focus on constituency work. He will no longer serve as deputy spokesperson on roads and works. The party thanked him for his service.

Separately, the public has been reminded that justices of the peace must not charge fees for their duties under the Justices of the Peace Act, and that anyone asked for payment should report it to the Custos’s office or the Ministry of Justice.
