Tropical wave to influence Caribbean weather as Jamaica faces afternoon showers

A tropical wave is forecast to reach the Caribbean on Sunday afternoon, bringing a decline in weather conditions across parts of the Eastern Caribbean, especially the southern section of the region. The northern Leeward Islands are expected to be less affected by the system.

Forecasters also noted a second, weaker tropical wave influencing Central America, where showers and thunderstorms have been developing. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms have also been reported around Jamaica, Cuba and Hispaniola.

Across the wider Caribbean, the high-pressure ridge has eased slightly, while the wind pattern over open waters has also weakened. With lighter winds in the area, stronger afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop.

For Jamaica tonight, skies should remain partly cloudy, with temperatures falling to about 25 degrees Celsius in both Kingston and Montego Bay. Wind conditions were noted along the south coast, while northeasterly winds are expected on the north coast.

On Sunday morning, partly cloudy weather is expected, particularly over eastern areas. By afternoon, isolated showers and thunderstorms are forecast for inland communities and western parishes. Maximum temperatures are expected to reach 34 degrees Celsius in Kingston and Montego Bay.

Half Way Tree, May Pen, Mandeville, Black River, Savanna-la-Mar and Negril may see a few showers and possible thunderstorms. Lucea, Montego Bay and Falmouth are also forecast to receive showers.
