Illegal Lottery Crackdown

Illegal Lottery Crackdown: The Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission (BGLC) is warning Jamaicans against participating in illegal lottery activities, saying such operations undermine the integrity of the country’s regulated gaming industry.

The warning follows the recent arrest of a man and a woman from Jones Town in Kingston during a targeted enforcement operation.

According to the BGLC, both individuals were charged and later appeared before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court, where they pleaded guilty. They were each fined $100,000 or sentenced to 30 days’ imprisonment.

The commission said it remains committed to tackling illegal lottery activities through ongoing enforcement operations across the island.

The BGLC also cautioned that anyone who participates in, facilitates or supports illegal gaming activities could face legal consequences.

The regulator added that it will continue working closely with law enforcement agencies to detect, deter and disrupt illegal lottery operations while ensuring Jamaica’s gaming industry operates within a framework of fairness, accountability and public protection.
