Golding Slams Prime Minister for Keeping Wheatley in Cabinet After Integrity Commission Report

Opposition Leader Mark Golding has taken aim at the Prime Minister for allowing Dr. Andrew Wheatley to remain in Cabinet after the Integrity Commission issued a recent report on the matter. Golding argued that the decision casts serious doubt on the Prime Minister’s judgement, particularly given that the Commission has recommended Wheatley face charges, including for illicit enrichment.

The issue featured prominently among the concerns voiced at a civil society demonstration held in Cross Roads, Kingston, on Wednesday morning. Golding stood with dozens of protesters wearing yellow and carrying placards at the Cross Roads clock and war memorial, where demonstrators renewed demands for Wheatley’s dismissal from the executive.

Golding maintained that Wheatley ought to step down temporarily in line with established protocol until the Integrity Commission matter is settled. He said the Prime Minister’s refusal to remove him stems from Wheatley’s outstanding difficulties with the Commission.

The Opposition Leader also raised fresh objections to how the Government has handled relief donations distributed in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa, which struck in October.
