Grange calls on Jamaica's youth to defend democracy at Manley birthday tribute

1 min read

Culture Minister Olivia Grange has asked young Jamaicans to step forward as the generation that will deepen and defend the nation's democracy, standing on the groundwork laid by National Hero Norman Manley.

She made the appeal while speaking at a floral tribute commemorating the 133rd anniversary of Manley's birth.

Grange told young people they have a duty to shield Jamaica's democratic system, noting that "today's actions become tomorrow's history."

The minister also pressed youth to build lives centred on purpose and service to others.

She invited every Jamaican to renew their commitment to Manley's guiding values: service before self, equal justice under the law, confidence in what the Jamaican people can accomplish, and a firm dedication to democracy.
