Harbour View teen Kemelia Paul responsive after stabbing attack

Kemelia Paul, the 13-year-old girl injured in a stabbing in Harbour View, is now responding after spending a period unconscious following the attack.

Relatives say Kemelia has made it through two of three major operations, while doctors continue working to get her condition steady.

The teenager was badly hurt three weeks ago, reportedly after she stepped into a domestic dispute involving her cousin and the cousin’s boyfriend. The man accused in the incident is said to have then attacked Kemelia, stabbing her in the abdomen.

She was taken to hospital and remained in a coma for several days.

Kemelia’s mother, Josephine Mitchell, said public support has carried the family through what she described as one of the hardest moments they have faced.

Although her condition has improved, family members say the young girl still has a difficult road to recovery.
