Kingston, Jamaica: Harbour View Stabbing Suspect Surrenders – Police say a man accused in the stabbing of a 13-year-old schoolgirl has turned himself in following intensified investigations into the incident that shocked residents and sparked widespread concern online.

The suspect, 29-year-old Kemar Mitchell, reportedly surrendered to detectives attached to the Kingston East Police Division on Thursday evening after law enforcement issued a warning for him to report to investigators.

Authorities said Mitchell is expected to face questioning by detectives as the probe continues.

The injured teenager has been identified as Kemelia Paul, a seventh-grade student at Excelsior High School in St Andrew. Reports indicate that she was stabbed during a dispute at her family’s home in Bayshore Park, Harbour View, on the night of May 9.

Investigators allege that the confrontation escalated during an altercation involving relatives of the teen, during which the accused allegedly used a knife and wounded the child.

Speaking publicly about the incident, the girl’s mother said her daughter and another family member attempted to intervene in the dispute before the attack occurred.

The incidenthas generated strong public reaction across social media, particularly after reports surfaced that the teen required emergency medical treatment. She has reportedly undergone two surgeries, with additional procedures still expected.

Police say investigations remain ongoing.
