Kingston Mayor still concerned about One Road Authority

Mayor of Kingston Andrew Swaby says it remains unclear how the establishment of the one road authority will address the long-standing problem of inadequate financial resources for local authorities to complete road works in the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC).
During the corporation’s monthly meeting on Tuesday, Swaby noted comments made by Minister with Responsibility for Works Robert Morgan, that 70 per cent of the roads in Kingston and St Andrew are the responsibility of the KSAMC.
However, the mayor says KSAMC receives approximately $85 million each month from the Parochial Revenue Fund for road maintenance but the amount is nowhere near enough to complete necessary repairs.
He said the KSAMC Road Works Department continues to operate with fewer technical officers than required, and the authority’s expansion does not rest solely with the municipal corporation.
