Holness Says Energy Reform Needed to Lower Power Bills and Drive Investment

1 min read

Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness says the government is moving to reshape Jamaica’s energy industry and bring down costly electricity bills, a step he said is needed to encourage wider business investment. He praised Sutherland Jamaica for putting money into the country and said its solar renewable energy initiative shows how clean power can support national transformation.

Holness was speaking at the launch ceremony for the company’s solar project, where he repeated that Jamaica’s electricity system needs reform. He said renewable energy can help firms reduce operating expenses while strengthening their ability to compete at home and overseas. For Jamaica to achieve strong growth, he said, power costs have to fall.
