Jamaica Civil Aviation Training Institute Earns ISO 9001:2015 Quality Certification

2 min readKingston

The Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority (JCAA) has secured ISO 9001:2015 certification for the Quality Management System that oversees its Civil Aviation Training Institute (CAATI). The award marks an important advance in the regulator's push for strong instruction, steady improvement, and high standards across aviation education.

The recognition followed a demanding independent audit. JCAA's audit package was approved by the Executive Committee for ISO 9001:2015 certification, and a Certificate of Conformity was issued.

ISO 9001:2015 is an internationally respected benchmark. It confirms that the quality management framework at CAATI consistently satisfies global requirements for designing, developing, and delivering aviation training programmes.

Acting Director General Nichole Morgan welcomed the outcome, calling it proof of the Authority's sustained focus on rigorous quality controls and sound operational practice.

"Achieving ISO 9001:2015 certification for our Civil Aviation Training Institute reflects the dedication, professionalism and hard work of our team. It demonstrates that our quality management processes meet internationally recognised standards and reinforces our commitment to delivering aviation training programmes that are efficient, consistent and continuously improving," Mrs. Morgan said.

The Acting Director General said the certification further bolsters Jamaica's reputation as a leading provider of civil aviation training in the region. She added that it supports the Authority's wider work to promote aviation safety, regulatory excellence, and human resource development.

Auditors identified several strengths within CAATI's Quality Management System. They cited effective documented processes, a clear commitment to continuous improvement, and adherence to internationally accepted quality management principles.

The certification is also expected to build greater confidence among stakeholders that CAATI can offer well-structured aviation training programmes backed by strong quality assurance measures.

Mrs. Morgan said the JCAA remains dedicated to fostering a culture of quality, innovation, and continuous improvement in line with national, regional, and international aviation standards.

CAATI delivers aviation training and professional development programmes aimed at building technical competencies across Jamaica's civil aviation sector. It is the only local facility that trains the country's air traffic controllers. The instructors and course developers who currently lead its programmes were also trained at CAATI.
