Telecommunications Minister Daryl Vaz says Flow's introduction of 5G network service is expected to foster competition in the market.
Flow launched the high speed internet on Thursday.
The telecoms provider says postpaid customers and businesses will be among the first to benefit.
Minister Vaz says it will transform digital connectivity.
"By working together, we'll ensure that this new generation of connectivity truly translates into tangible benefits for all Jamaica. And last but not least, it will drive competition. So I expect that I'm going to be hearing other things in due course, which works well for the country, the people of Jamaica, and of course, it will be beneficial to generations to come," he suggested.
Liberty Caribbean, the operators of Flow and Liberty Business, says this marks a major milestone in Jamaica's digital transformation, and reinforces its position as the country's leading mobile communications provider.
Flow's 5G mobile network already reaches 70 per cent of Jamaica's population.
