Sabrina Lyn through to breaststroke final at Commonwealth Games

KINGSTON, Jamaica—Sabrina Lyn qualified for Sunday’s final of the women’s 100m breaststroke at the Commonwealth Games after finishing fifth in the semi-finals at the Tollcross swimming centre in Glasgow, Scotland on Saturday.

Lyn became the first Jamaican swimmer to get to a final after she swam 1:08.43 in the semi-final after placing fourth in her first round race earlier in the day in 1:09.11.

She was also part of the Jamaican Mixed 4x100m relay team that placed third in their first round heat in 3:43.07, teaming with Collin McKenzie, Kito Campbell and Jessica Calderbank.

On Saturday, Lyn and Calderbank will contest the first round of the Women’s 100m butterfly while McKenzie and Campbell are set to swim in the men’s 50m breaststroke event.

Earlier on Friday’s first day of swimming Jessica Calderbank and Campbell qualified for the semi-finals in the women’s 50m butterfly and men’s 100m breaststroke respectively.

Calderbank was fifth in her first round heat in 27.17 seconds before placing sixth in her semi-final race in 26.88 seconds but failed to advance.

Lyn had won her first round heat in 27.75 seconds and failed to get into the semis.

Campbell was fifth in his first round heat in 1:02.31 and lowered that to 1:02.02 in the semi-final where he was eighth fastest among swimmers from the Caribbean.
