Jamaica completes draft 10-year National Agricultural Development Plan with FAO, says Green

Kingston, Jamaica— The Jamaican Government, with the help of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations has completed the draft 10-year National Agricultural Development Plan.

Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining, Floyd Green, made the announcement on May 13 during his contribution to the Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives.

He shared that the plan focuses on four main thematic areas: Resilient, Sustainable & Efficient Production Systems; Competitive & Innovative Agri-Businesses & Value Chains; Efficient Agricultural Trade; and Food Security & Nutrition.

It also focuses on a number of cross-cutting themes including research, innovation and technology, enhanced agricultural workforce, youth, gender and praedial larceny.

Floyd said he was making the draft public for feedback and suggestions before finalisation. It has been shared with parliamentarians and posted on the website of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries at www.moa.gov.jm.

Green said the aim is that every agricultural stakeholder can provide feedback before the plan is finalised. Comments and suggestions can be submitted via email at [email protected].

The agriculture minister said a validation workshop will be held for critical stakeholders to provide input for the finalisation of what he said is “this vital plan” on May 21, 2026.
