Jamaica Post Halts Outgoing Mail to European Union Over New Customs Rules
The Post and Telecommunications Department, trading as Jamaica Post, has stopped accepting all mail pieces headed for countries in the European Union until further notice. The move took effect yesterday and does not cover Great Britain.
In a social media update, the agency said the step was required because the European Union changed its customs framework, ending duty-free de minimis treatment for all nations outside the bloc from today, 1 July. The rule change affects how inbound mail is handled from multiple countries worldwide, not Jamaica alone.
Jamaica Post said that, given these developments, it had no option but to pause acceptance of EU-bound mail while it coordinates closely with international partners to resolve the issue.
