JGRA Calls for Stronger Gas Station Security After Denham Road Shooting
The Jamaica Gasoline Retailers Association (JGRA) is urging petrol station operators to strengthen security after a pump attendant was shot during a robbery on Denham Road in St Andrew yesterday afternoon.
The worker remains in critical condition in hospital following the daylight attack. Police later fatally shot two men believed to be among the gunmen involved, in a separate encounter that same evening.
In a statement today, JGRA President Philip Chong condemned the shooting as a senseless act of violence that has left service station employees increasingly exposed to harm.
Mr Chong called on operators to remain vigilant and asked the Jamaica Constabulary Force to keep up regular patrols at petrol stations, even with the force facing resource constraints.
The association is also encouraging retailers to upgrade their closed-circuit television systems as part of wider efforts to deter crime and improve safety for staff and customers.
