Maroon Emperor LA Lewis says he narrowly avoided serious injury on Tuesday night after men allegedly robbed him at gunpoint during an event in Charlestown, Portland.

Lewis told reporters he was among guests and handing out charity when a group linked to the artist booked for the function confronted him. After what he described as intimidation, they took a bag holding his mobile phone, US$2,800, J$300,000, and CAD$200. He believes the incident was meant to pressure him to halt work linked to his Maroon government, but said he would not back down. The matter was reported to police at Buff Bay station in the parish.

In St. Elizabeth, Park Mountain Primary and Infant School is marking a major academic win even as the institution continues recovering from Hurricane Melissa. Head girl Jessonia Beadle, 11, scored 394.2 out of 400 on the Primary Exit Profile examination, placing her as Jamaica's leading primary-level performer. She has earned a place at Hampton School in the parish.

Former recording artist Godfrey Jessey Williams, once known as J Amsterdam, has drawn online criticism after urging Christians to stay away from the World Cup. Williams, now a pastor, said his earlier career — including lyrics widely associated with oral sex — left him promoting what he now calls sin. He said that background equips him to speak boldly for God and that he will not retreat despite public backlash.

On the international football stage, Ecuador defeated Germany 2-1 in their final group match on Thursday. Germany had already secured the top spot and qualification, yet the loss still stung for the European side. With several lower-ranked teams making strong runs at the tournament, Ecuador supporters are watching closely to learn whether the victory will be enough to carry the South American team into the next round.

In a reader submission shared this week, a 24-year-old woman with a four-year-old son wrote: "I hate men because of my deadbeat baby father." She said that when she became pregnant, her then boyfriend pressured her to terminate the pregnancy. After she refused, the relationship ended and he provided no support for her or the child. She also accused him of spreading rumours about the child's paternity. Years later, with her son doing well, the man has sought to reconcile. She said she no longer trusts men, has no romantic interest in them, and intends to keep him out of her and her child's life.
