Police Probe Fatal Shootings, Workplace Stabbing and Mandeville Vendor Breaches
Police and INDECOM are probing multiple fatal incidents reported across St. Catherine, Manchester and Kingston, including a police shooting in Portmore, a double murder in New Forest, a workplace stabbing in Newport West and a deadly accident in Mandeville.
INDECOM has opened an investigation after a man was fatally shot by police in Dumbleholden, Portmore, on Thursday night. Reports say St. Catherine South Quick Response Unit personnel were patrolling Gilbert Avenue about 8:45 p.m. when they saw a man with what appeared to be a firearm in his waistband. Police said officers later encountered two men at premises in the area and one allegedly fired at them. After a second exchange inside the house, the wounded man was found with a Beretta pistol and a magazine containing eight rounds. He was taken to Spanish Town Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
In Manchester, police are investigating the execution-style killings of 60-year-old Hubert Ferguson, otherwise called Best Day, and his 33-year-old son Floyd Ferguson, otherwise called Fido, a car dealer and DJ. The men were found dead at their New Forest home early Friday after their hands were reportedly bound. Investigators suspect the killings are connected to lottery scamming. Several vehicles, including luxury cars, were reportedly found at the property, and a police source said the elder Ferguson had served time in the United Kingdom for cocaine trafficking.
Manchester police also identified 60-year-old Robert Dawes of George Reid district, Mandeville, as the man killed Thursday in Balvin Heights when lengths of steel fell from a delivery truck while he was sitting under a tree about 10:30 a.m. Separately, cargo handler Stanley Reid, 25, of Portmore, died at Kingston Public Hospital after he was stabbed in the neck during a dispute along Shannon Drive, Newport West. Police said the 13-year-old suspect is in custody.
Six vendors were charged and five others warned during a Thursday operation targeting vending along Winston Jones Highway near the Williamsfield and New Green roundabouts in Mandeville. Police said the activity was obstructing traffic and urged vendors to use Mandeville Market.
A curfew has also been imposed in March Pen, Spanish Town, after gunmen shot four people along Colledge Road about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, killing Barton Stewart, 36, and Akeem Smith, 27, of Carlisle Road. Senior Superintendent Hopeton Nicholson said gang feuds are suspected and asked Damion Burton, otherwise called Damon; Colin Booth, otherwise called George; men known as Crooks and Brother; and two people using the alias Twin to report to police by 8:00 a.m. on June 5, 2026.
