WESTMORELAND, Jamaica — Police say a Friday night robbery and shooting at a Negril restaurant left its owner dead and a European visitor badly wounded.
The victim has been named as 36-year-old Nashon McGibbon, also called Bubba, a businessman of West End, Negril, in Westmoreland.
The injured man is a 64-year-old medical doctor from the Czech Republic who had been staying at a property in Negril while on vacation. He has been admitted to hospital in serious but stable condition.
The attack happened about 8:40 pm on Norman Manley Boulevard. According to reports, the visitor had placed a food order when two hooded men arrived on a motorcycle.
The men moved toward a table where McGibbon and the customer were sitting, then drew handguns and fired at McGibbon. He reportedly ran from the spot, but collapsed in an open field as the gunmen pursued him.
After the shooting, the attackers allegedly grabbed two bags from the table. The bags held an undetermined amount of cash. The men then escaped on the motorcycle.
The visitor, who sustained a gunshot wound to his shoulder, was taken to a nearby private hospital. McGibbon was carried to the Savanna-la-Mar Public General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
