Traffic Police Prioritise Safety of Older Pedestrians Across Jamaica

Jamaica’s Traffic Police will give added attention to safeguarding older pedestrians as authorities pursue a goal of keeping road deaths below 300. Of the 33 pedestrians killed in crashes since the year began, half were between 50 and 70 years old.

Senior Superintendent Lloyd Darby, who leads the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch (PSTEB), said church groups will be brought into an awareness drive aimed at that age group. He also urged caregivers to watch elderly people more closely when they are in public areas. Darby made the remarks Tuesday at a National Road Safety Council press conference in Kingston.
