ST ANN, Jamaica — Late reggae artiste Fantan Mojah will be recognised at A Taste of Reggae Sumfest, set for Saturday, July 18, at Plantation Cove in St Ann, festival organisers have announced.
The planned salute follows the death of the respected conscious reggae singer only days earlier. He was 49. Organisers said the presentation would reflect on his life, work and enduring influence on Jamaica’s reggae landscape.
Reggae Sumfest Chief Executive Officer Joe Bogdanovich called Fantan Mojah “a true soldier for reggae music.” He said the artiste consistently delivered meaningful lyrics and sincere performances while remaining dedicated to inspiring others through his songs.
According to Bogdanovich, the singer’s death brought deep sorrow to the festival team. He said the July 18 programme would recognise Fantan Mojah’s creative achievements, legacy and important place within reggae and the wider Sumfest community.
Fantan Mojah became one of conscious reggae’s prominent performers through recordings including Hail the King and Corruption. His catalogue carried themes of spirituality, social justice and African identity.
His energetic stage appearances and steadfast support for culturally rooted music helped him develop a committed audience both in Jamaica and overseas.
His most recent appearance on the Reggae Sumfest stage came in 2025. Organisers recalled that performance as an authentic and passionate showcase of the bond he maintained with reggae audiences.
Patrons, other performers and members of the broader reggae fraternity are expected to gather for the tribute, celebrating Fantan Mojah’s life and notable service to Jamaican music. Organisers believe his work will remain influential for years to come.
