Righteous Teacher Lands First US iTunes Reggae Chart Spot With Busy Signal Single
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Bahamian reggae singer Righteous Teacher has notched a first-time placement on the United States iTunes Reggae chart with Give Thanks, a track recorded alongside dancehall performer Busy Signal.
The single climbed to number three on the chart earlier this week.
"This is a major accomplishment in my career," Righteous Teacher told Observer Online on Friday. "It is my first time making it onto the USA iTunes Reggae chart and it was the next level artiste Busy Signal who made it possible. He is the first Jamaican artiste whom I have worked with," said the vocalist, whose legal name is Demarco Grant.
The song was tracked in May and issued on June 5. Producer Crawba Genius handled the record and helped arrange the pairing between the two artists.
"I had a desire to do a collaboration with Busy Signal and my road manager who was in Jamaica, connected with Crawba Genius, who made the connection with Busy Signal happen. The collaboration was incredible; it was an incredible experience working with Busy Signal. He is incredibly talented artiste who has a natural feel and resilience for the amazing soundtrack that was done, and I look forward to working with him again in the future," Righteous Teacher said.
Grant is originally from New Providence in Nassau, Bahamas. He lived in Florida, United States, for ten years before returning home, where he worked as an immigration officer.
In 2020, Righteous Teacher charted on Billboard's Top 40 Mainstream Indicator when Favour Bounce Da Revolution peaked at number 35. He said Give Thanks, which reflects on gratitude for life and personal blessings, stands out as a release he holds in especially high regard.
