Save Our Boys and Girls Foundation delivers successful inaugural 5K Run/Walk

KINGSTON, Jamaica—The Save Our Boys and Girls Foundation on Sunday had a successful staging of its inaugural 5K Run/Walk and Family Fish Fry at Hope Gardens in St Andrew.

The event was held under the patronage of the Foundation’s Founder, Juliet Holness.

The race got underway at 6:30 am and was held under the theme “Steps for Their Future”.

Hundreds of Jamaicans came out to support the event which brought together runners, walkers, families, corporate teams, sponsors and community supporters for a morning of fitness, and fellowship.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness joined Mrs Holness for the event along with a host of prominent Jamaicans from the political and sports fraternity, including Sports Minister Olivia Grange, Health Minister Dr Christopher Tufton and former World Record Holder Asafa Powell.

Proceeds from the fundraising event are expected to support the Foundation’s education initiatives, including tertiary scholarships, grants and other programmes designed to expand opportunities for young Jamaicans.

The programme also featured a professionally timed 5K Run/Walk, warm-up activities, finish-line celebrations, prize presentations, sponsor activations and community engagement.

“This is about more than reaching the finish line. Every step taken helps us create a stronger future for young people through education, opportunity and community support”, Mrs Holness commented as she hailed the successful staging of the event.
