Senator urges Education Ministry to teach children early saving habits
Opposition Senator Lambert Brown has urged the Education Ministry to spearhead a national drive that teaches children to save from a young age.
He made the call on Friday while the Senate considered amendments to regulations covering pensions, superannuation funds and retirement schemes.
Brown expressed concern that large numbers of workers on contract arrangements are left without a pension and do not put money aside for life after work. Building the discipline to save early, he said, is essential.
