St. Andrew Central police lean on community engagement against domestic violence and gangs

Police in St. Andrew Central say community engagement remains essential alongside hard enforcement, especially where officers cannot intervene inside private homes on domestic matters.

Asked how the force strengthens work and public messaging on domestic violence — including use of domestic violence intervention centres — when it cannot place a policeman in every yard or bedroom, an Area 4 speaker stressed that intensive street policing is only part of the response.

Community outreach, the speaker said, is treated as a priority in St. Andrew Central. The division is described as constantly changing, with new developments that force regular shifts in strategy.

Among the approaches cited were football competitions and similar community activities, framed as tools to help prevent domestic problems and gang conflict.
