2026 FIFA World Cup stadiums move into focus across North America

Preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup are placing fresh attention on the stadiums that will stage the tournament across the United States, Mexico and Canada, as organisers get venues ready for players, officials, fans and global television audiences.

The tournament will use grounds in 16 host cities, with each selected to support the scale and demands of World Cup football. Final work is focused on match operations, supporter access and the overall experience inside and around the venues.

New York/New Jersey Stadium is among the leading facilities on the schedule and is expected to be used for some of the competition’s most high-profile fixtures. The stadium has a listed capacity of 82,500 and is recognised as one of North America’s major sporting venues.

In Texas, Dallas Stadium is being highlighted for its technology, including one of the largest video screens in world sport. Tournament organisers expect those features to add to the atmosphere for spectators on match days.

Los Angeles Stadium will also be part of the event, bringing a newer design and advanced infrastructure to the World Cup programme. The venue is regarded as an example of the more modern direction in stadium construction.

Mexico City Stadium, better known internationally as Estadio Azteca, remains one of the most storied grounds in football. It staged the 1970 World Cup final, when Brazil beat Italy 4-1, and the 1986 final, when Argentina defeated West Germany 3-2.

Canada will also host matches, including at Toronto Stadium, known internationally as BMO Field, which has a 45,000 capacity, and at BC Place in Vancouver.

Officials say planning has covered transport, security, crowd control and sustainability measures as they work towards a safe and successful tournament.

In Jamaica, the FIFA World Cup is scheduled to be carried live on TVJ and onesportmedia.com, with radio coverage on FAME 95 FM.
