Stadiums across the United States, Mexico and Canada are moving deeper into preparation mode as the 2026 FIFA World Cup approaches, with organisers putting fresh emphasis on the venues that will stage football’s biggest tournament.

The grounds selected across 16 host cities are being readied to serve players, match officials and supporters while also presenting the event to a global television audience. The venues range from historic football sites to newer arenas built around modern design, major capacity and advanced technology.

New York New Jersey Stadium is among the major venues expected to feature prominently during the competition. The arena, which has a listed capacity of 82,500, is regarded as one of North America’s leading sports facilities and is set to host some of the tournament’s biggest fixtures.

In Texas, Dallas Stadium is being highlighted for its innovation, including one of the world’s largest video displays. Tournament organisers expect the stadium’s technology to add to the experience for supporters attending matches.

Los Angeles Stadium, on the West Coast, will bring a more futuristic profile to the World Cup. The venue is widely viewed as one of the most advanced sports arenas yet built and is being presented as an example of the next phase of stadium development.

Mexico City Stadium, better known historically as Estadio Azteca, remains one of the competition’s most storied venues. It staged the 1970 World Cup final, when Brazil beat Italy 4-1, and the 1986 final, when Argentina defeated West Germany 3-2.

Canada will also host matches, including at Toronto Stadium, listed with a 45,000 capacity, and at BC Place Vancouver.

Officials say planning has covered transport, security, crowd control and sustainability measures, with the goal of delivering a safe and successful tournament as the countdown continues.
